Designed by Tinker Hatfield and worn by Michael Jordan in 1989, the Air Jordan 4 four debuted in 1989 by building on the progressive design Air Jordan 3 ability to seamlessly blend on-court performance with off-court fashion. Straps framed the eyelets, which provided function for ballers seeking extra support -- A wing lace structure, mesh side panel and extended heel tab pushed the signature sneaker line forward--all elements of a silhouette celebrated today through new releases, unexpected collaborations and retro drops. Today Jordan Brand leverages iconic colorways to tell new stories, like on the Air Jordan 4 Retro 'Red Thunder. Michael Jordan's footwear reached new heights when the “Fire Red” Jordan 4 was featured in Spike Lee’s classic Do the Right Thing.
The Air Jordan IV was the first global market release of the franchise. Another first,the shoe appeared in Spike Lee's film Do the Right Thing, transcending the game of basketball to make a significant impact on pop culture. All eyes were on Jordan as he continued to rise.
